Croissants

Mr. Ladybug has been dreaming about home-made croissant for the longest time. I've been excusing myself from making them, saying "Oh, it's too warm...the butter melts too fast during warm weather" but I cannot say that any more - it's the end of November. Making croissants is such a long affair...it takes me about 7 hours total (mostly chilling the dough in the fridge in between turns), however, it's definitely worth the effort. There is nothing like eating freshly baked croissants right out of the oven. We had hot chocolate ready while the croissants are baking and enjoyed them right away with drizzling honey.
ジョンに随分長いことクロワッサンをリクエストされていたのですが、作るのにあまりに長い時間がかかるため(材料を混ぜ合わせてから焼きあがるまでに7時間くらい。主に生地を冷蔵庫で寝かせるのにかかる時間ですが)、「いや、今はまだ暖かすぎるから」とずっと言い訳をしていました(大量のバターを使うので温度が高いと生地がベトベトして扱いにくいという理由)。しかし11月も終わり、さすがにこの言い訳はもう使えません。意を決してとりかかりました。けれども努力は十分に報われます。オーブンからの焼きたてにハチミツをつけて食べたら、もう止まらないおいしさです。このおやつの時間をさらに完璧なものにするために、焼き上がりにあわせてココアを淹れて待機しました。こういうことにはよく頭が働くんです(笑)。

  1. Oh wow, you are much more ambitious than I, in the kitchen! I adore fresh croissants but I do not have the patience required to make them. Your's look devine!

  3. I've only done this a couple of times in the past. If I somehow ever decided to do it again, I would like to try using good European butter and see if it makes a big difference. It takes so much time/effort so I might as well spend a few extra bucks on the ingredients.
    Spending many years in France, you really must know how good croissant should taste...

  4. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it! Hey, why not even make your own butter from local organic cream.
